Ο μπασίστας των ZZ Top Ντάστι Χιλ, μία από τις διάσημες γενειοφόρες φιγούρες του blues rock τρίο από το Τέξας, πέθανε σε ηλικία 72 ετών.

Ο κιθαρίστας Μπίλι Γκίμπονς και ο ντράμερ Φρανκ Μπίαρντ έγραψαν σε ανάρτηση τους στο facebook ότι ο Χιλ «έφυγε» στον ύπνο του, στην κατοικία του στο Χιούστον.

Παρότι δεν αναφέρεται η αιτία θανάτου, ποστ που δημοσιεύθηκε στην ιστοσελίδα της μπάντας στις 21 Ιουλίου, έγραφε ότι ο Χιλ «έκανε μία μικρή παράκαμψη [από την καλοκαιρινή περιοδεία] επιστρέφοντας στο Τέξας για να αντιμετωπίσει ένα πρόβλημα που προέκυψε με το ισχίο του» και πώς τον αντικαθιστούσε ο Έλγουντ Φράνσις.

Ο Τζο Μάικλ Χιλ, όπως ήταν το πραγματικό όνομα του, γεννήθηκε στο Ντάλας και μαζί με τους Γκίμπσον και Μπίαρντ δημιούργησαν το 1969, στο Χιούστον, τους ZZ Top. Το 1970 κυκλοφόρησαν το πρώτο τους άλμπουμ με τίτλο «ZZ Top’s First Album».

Τρία χρόνια μετά έκαναν επιτυχία με το τραγούδι La Grange, μια ωδή στο Chicken Ranch, ένα διαβόητο μπορντέλο στο Τέξας με το ίδιο όνομα.

Από τις μεγάλες επιτυχίες τους στα chart ήταν το Tush το 1975, το Sharp Dressed Man, το Legs and Gimme All Your Lovin’ το 1983, και το Rough Boy and Sleeping Bag το 1985.
